The Rescue Mission is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Associate Chaplain to support the spiritual and emotional well-being of the individuals and families we serve.
In this role, you will walk alongside clients during some of the most challenging times in their lives—offering encouragement, guidance, and connection. Through one-on-one support, group programming, and spiritual engagement, you will help foster hope, community, and personal growth.
What You’ll Do
- Build meaningful, respectful relationships with clients and provide ongoing encouragement and support
- Offer spiritual care through active listening, counseling, and crisis intervention
- Lead chapel services, Bible studies, and fellowship opportunities
- Plan and facilitate engaging spiritual life activities and group programming
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance client support services
- Maintain consistent client engagement, including documentation and follow-ups
- Support clients during significant life events (hospital visits, funerals, etc., as needed)
- Develop and implement monthly activity calendars that promote well-being and connection
- Encourage participation, social interaction, and community involvement
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to a supportive, team-based environment
- Promote a safe, respectful environment by following organizational policies
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Bible college or seminary education preferred, but not required
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Experience in inner-city ministry, human services, or homeless services highly valued

- Ability to provide faith-based guidance and apply spiritual principles in real-life situations
- Strong communication skills, including public speaking, teaching, and counseling
- Ability to work with diverse populations and perspectives
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to lead groups and facilitate meaningful discussions
- High emotional intelligence and a non-judgmental approach
- Client-focused mindset with excellent interpersonal skills
Requirements
- Must be available to work day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
- Valid NYS Driver’s License (in compliance with policy)
- Ability to engage others in a warm, compassionate, and professional manner
- Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and strong ethical standards
- Adherence to all organizational health and safety guidelines
